An anthology aims at presenting, in a compact format, a collection of texts, some of which are famous and well-known, others more rare, harder to find, neglected or entirely forgotten ; in the process, it purports to give the reader an insight into what a literature, a genre, a period has produced that is most noteworthy. As it is entirely predicated upon selection, inclusion and exclusion, the process of compiling an anthology relies implicitly or explicitly on a set of criteria to determine representativity and they are likely to vary with time, but also with other factors, individual and collective.
